Widely known as The Hov, Tim Hovland has 60 open wins to his credit!

Out of those 60 open wins, 51 came when The Hov was playing with Mike Dodd. There are only two other teams in the history of the AVP that had this kind of dominance Ð Sinjin Smith/Randy Stoklos and Karch Kiraly/Kent Steffes. For over a decade the team of Hovie/Dodd finished 9th or better Ð much better. Hovie/Dodd made it into virtually every final during 1987 and 1988. Together, they won a total of five Manhattan Opens.

Named the 1978 Southern California High School Athlete of the Year, Hovland won his first tournament victory in 1979 in Hawaii playing with Karch Kiraly. Hovland graduated from USC with a Bachelors Degree in Communications in 1981. In 1994 he surpassed the $1 million mark in prize earnings on the AVP Tour.

In 1998 and 1999, Hovland spent most AVP Sundays broadcasting AVP finals for Fox Sports Network. But he still found time in 1998 and 1999 to pick up a few 13th and 17th place finishes playing with various partners and once during those two years he finished as high as 9th in the 1999 Louisville tournament playing with Matt Unger.

Known to this day as a fiery competitor, Hovland experiences some neck problems that may prevent him from adding to his open win tally. Active in real estate, he resides in Manhattan Beach with his wife Pam, daughter Tara, and son Hunter.
