Adam
Jewell has an atomic arm. It is unlikely you will ever see
anyone bounce a ball higher off the sand than Jewell.
Jewell
played beach volleyball in Del Mar (near San Diego) as a kid
and played a little indoor volleyball at South Torrance High
School and El Camino College. He was recruited by the University
of Hawaii, but he turned down their offer to play on the AVP
Tour. Jewell began playing full-time on the AVP Tour in 1998
and did well right away....
After
getting a 7th place finish and several 9ths with Paul Boyd and
Lee LeGrande, Jewell finished his 1998 rookie year with a career
high 5th place in San Diego playing with Brent Doble Ð in his
rookie year!
After
his 1998 AVP rookie year, Jewell started the 1999 AVP season
ranked 38th and by the end he advanced to 21st.
In
addition to his success on the AVP tour, Adam has a few good
finishes on the FIVB World Tour. In December 1998, he finished
13th partnered with Canyon Ceman in Vitoria, Brazil and in December
1999, he fought his way through a qualifier to finish 25th with
partner Stein Metzger, again in Vitoria.
In
1999, Jewell had several 7th and 9th place AVP finishes and
he finished the year with a 5th at the Manhattan Beach Open
playing for the first time with Eduardo Bacil (Anjinho).
Jewell
achieved the jump from 38th to 21st ranking in 1999 playing
with five different partners. Look for him to improve even more
in 2000 if he can settle in with a single strong partner.
