FEATURE ARTICLE:Team Smack, a veteran of 10 years playing in the International Surf Festival/Six Man tournament, finished 2nd this year. The tournament was held on the south side of the Manhattan Beach pier and includes many of the best indoor and beach players ever. One team included past olympians such as Eric Sato, Scott Fortune, Doug Partie, as well as dozens of All Americans. Also included were legends such as the Hov, Dodd, Frohoff, and many others. All the top AVP players were there (unless they were overseas playing FIVB) - Ack, Lewie, Feurbringer, Jennings, and Lambert. Team Smack included AVP superstars like Brent Doble, Adam Jewell, Jake Gibb, Mark Kerins, Ed Ratledge, Chad Mowery, Ryan Mariano, Chris Harger, John Thompson, Jason Olive, Ty Loomis, and Chris Harger. Also on the team was the 1st team 2004 All American Tyler Hildebrant, 2003 National champ Ryan Stuntz from Lewis, National team member Dave Mckenzie, and past All Americans Steve Walker, Cam Green, Tim May, and others. Team Smack met up with Team Fletch in the winners bracket finals, and lost a heartbreaker 15-13, then again in the finals and lost 15-11. Team Fletch included Fuerbringer, Lambert, Jennings, Bacil, Legrand, Ian Clark, Matt Unger, Kevin Martin, and many others.
