Rosenthal Finishes Second in Hermosa Open

Sean Rosenthal finished second place this Sunday in the 2017 AVP Hermosa. Playing at his home beach in front of a rowdy crowd of Rosie’s Raiders, the match went to a decisive third set before Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb won 15-11.

On Saturday, the Olympian battled his way to the tournament semifinals wearing his “8th Street Local” boardies. A part of the Smack Sportswear “Rosie” Signature Line, the board shorts were developed with Sean and feature a skull and his 8th St. Local “8 ball” logo.

On Sunday, Sean debuted his second pair of custom sublimated Smack Sportswear board shorts, designed for his “Son of Jor-El” nickname and featuring a superman logo. He and partner Trevor Crabb beat the team of Marciniak and Rodriguez to claim their spot in the AVP Final. There, they would each meet their former partners–Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb.

At 1PM on Sunday afternoon, broadcasted live on NBC Sports, the two teams battled in front of a packed stadium of local fans and rowdy Rosie’s Raiders. Gibb and Ta. Crabb took the first set 21-16, and Rosenthal and Tr. Crabb won the second set with a score of 21-17.

In the decisive third set, Gibb and Ta. Crabb earned a 9-6 switch before Rosenthal and Tr. Crabb battled back to a 10-10 score. Gibb and Ta. Crabb ultimately won the match, winning 15-11 and taking home the gold.

Rosenthal’s play didn’t disappoint–the Olympian impressed the crowd all day with amazing ups, hard angle hits, and ended up #2 on ESPN Top Ten Plays of the Day.
